Rockville Receives $2.68 Million in Federal Funding for Water and Sewer Projects

Rockville has received $2.68 million in federal earmark funding to support three infrastructure projects aimed at improving the city’s drinking water safety and wastewater system.

The funding, included in the Fiscal Year 2026 federal appropriations package, was secured with support from the city’s congressional delegation, including U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin and Sens. Angela Alsobrooks and Chris Van Hollen.

The largest portions of the funding will go toward replacing aging Orangeburg sewer laterals and rehabilitating more than 54,000 linear feet of wastewater pipes in southeast Rockville to help prevent sewage backups and environmental contamination. An additional $500,000 will fund a lead service line inventory investigation to identify more than 8,000 water service lines with unknown materials, a requirement under updated federal drinking water regulations.
