The Montgomery County Commission for Women, in partnership with Montgomery County Recreation and Montgomery County Public Libraries, is inviting residents to participate in the ninth annual Girl Power Contest as part of Women’s History Month.
The contest asks participants to reflect on women, past or present, who have demonstrated real-life “superpowers” by making a meaningful difference in their communities. County residents age five and older can submit a short story, poem, drawing, or other creative work about an inspiring woman. Written submissions must be 500 words or fewer and include the participant’s name, age, grade and school if applicable, and contact information.
The submission deadline is 5 pm on Tuesday, March 31, and entries are limited to one per person. Winners will be selected in four categories: elementary school, middle school, high school, and adult. Selected winners will be recognized in early May, featured on the Commission for Women’s social media platforms, and invited to a recognition ceremony where they will receive a certificate and Girl Power swag bag.
