Council Committees to Examine Library Funding, School Class Sizes and Health Programs

Montgomery County Council committees will meet Thursday, March 5 to review elements of the Fiscal Year 2027 to 2032 Capital Improvements Program and receive updates on public health and education initiatives.

The Economic Development Committee will meet at 9:30 am to review more than $11.7 million in capital projects for the Revenue Authority and consider economic development funding proposals, including $50 million for the Institute for Health Computing in North Bethesda, $9.8 million for North Bethesda Metro Station area infrastructure, and $9 million tied to the White Oak Science Gateway redevelopment associated with the Viva White Oak project.

Later in the day, the Health and Human Services Committee will receive an update on the County’s Minority Health Initiatives, including the African American Health Program, Latino Health Initiative, and Asian American Health Initiative. The Education and Culture Committee will meet at 1:30 pm to review more than $83 million in capital funding for Montgomery County Public Libraries, including plans for a new Clarksburg Library and Shady Grove West Library. The committee will also receive briefings on Montgomery County Public Schools class size trends and academic performance data from the 2024 to 2025 school year.
