Wheaton Arts Parade Seeking Storage Space for Floats

Organizers of the Wheaton Arts Parade are seeking temporary storage space for the large art floats used in the event after learning the sculptures must be moved from their current location by April 1. The floats currently do not have a new storage location, though the parade is scheduled to take place in September during what organizers say will be the event’s 10th anniversary year.

The floats have previously been stored at several locations in Wheaton, including space at Westfield Wheaton, the former Volunteer Rescue Squad building on Grandview Avenue and most recently a ground floor retail space at the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission headquarters building. That space is now being prepared for a commercial tenant, requiring the artwork to be removed.

Organizers say they are looking for temporary indoor storage such as a warehouse, garage or barn where the floats can be kept for about six months and protected from the weather. Some of the larger sculptures can be disassembled to fit through a 7 foot high double door entrance.

The Wheaton Arts Parade is a volunteer led nonprofit event that features large scale sculptures, performances and community participation. Individuals or organizations with potential storage space are encouraged to contact parade organizers.
