Metro will suspend Red Line service between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights from July 6 through September 7, 2026, to accommodate major construction work.
During this time, free shuttle buses will replace trains at Grosvenor-Strathmore, Medical Center, and Bethesda stations. Red Line service will continue to operate every six minutes in two segments: between Shady Grove and North Bethesda, and between Friendship Heights and Glenmont.
The construction includes building a second mezzanine at Bethesda station to connect with the future Purple Line, rehabilitating the platform at Grosvenor-Strathmore, and replacing the elevated tracks over Rockville Pike between Grosvenor-Strathmore and Medical Center. Metro officials say the work is part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure and support future transit integration.
