The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) honored K–12 students at the 2026 Waste Reduction–Reuse–Recycling Poster Contest in Rockville, recognizing creative efforts to promote sustainability.
The annual program, now a key part of the County’s zero-waste initiative, drew 285 entries from 27 schools under the theme “One Item, Many Lives,” focused on creative reuse. Student artwork was judged by a panel of volunteer professional artists, with awards given across four grade-level categories.
County officials highlighted the role of student creativity in encouraging environmental awareness and action, while also acknowledging the contributions of participating schools and volunteer judges.
