A retired postal worker from Germantown won $50,000 in the Maryland Lottery after the ZIP code she regularly plays was drawn as the winning Pick 5 combination on February 12.
According to the Maryland Lottery, she has been playing the same out-of-state ZIP code for several years, as it is tied to a community where some of her family members live. The winner, who began playing the Lottery after retiring, previously had a top prize of $5,000.
She claimed the prize on April 28 and said the winnings will go toward savings, home improvements, and a planned trip to visit a friend. The winning ticket was purchased at Town Center Sunoco on Germantown Road, which will receive a $500 bonus. The winner said she plans to continue playing the same numbers moving forward.
