Peter Chang Kitchen & Bar at 8503 Baltimore Ave has closed less than eight months after opening near the University of Maryland campus.
The restaurant announced that it officially ceased operations on Monday, May 18, citing rising operating costs and other factors. Peter Chang Kitchen & Bar first opened on September 30, 2025, and was led by acclaimed chef Peter Chang, who is widely recognized for his Chinese cuisine and multiple James Beard Award honors and nominations.
Located next to UMD, the restaurant focused on modern Chinese fusion cuisine and featured dishes spanning several regional styles, including Sichuan, Xinjiang, Wuhan, Northeastern Chinese cuisine, dim sum, and hand-pulled noodles. Signature menu items included Peking duck, pork soup dumplings, chili oil hand-pulled noodles, and a variety of skewers and small plates.
In a message posted to customers, the restaurant thanked the community for its support and encouraged diners to visit other Peter Chang locations across the DMV region. In Montgomery County, Peter Chang has locations at 637 Frederick Rd in Gaithersburg and 4500 East-West Hwy #100 in Bethesda (Q by Peter Chang).
