Veteran-Owned Bookstore Set to Open in Laytonsville

A new independent bookstore and community gathering space called The Brady Readery is set to open at 6860 Olney Laytonsville Road in Laytonsville this summer. The bookstore will officially open June 13 with a grand opening celebration and later host a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Gaithersburg Chamber of Commerce on June 17.

The Brady Readery is described as Laytonsville’s first veteran- and woman-owned independent bookstore and community space. Owner Michelle Brady, a U.S. Army veteran and former attorney, said the concept was created to provide a local place for books, conversation, and community gatherings in a town without a public library.

According to the announcement, the store will feature new and used books, games, children’s programming, book clubs, and community events for adults and families. Plans also include a free children’s lending library and weekly story and craft activities.

The June 13 grand opening event will include shopping, a local food truck, and a story and craft hour for children.
