Police Address Viral Video Showing Officers Detaining Man

The Montgomery County Department of Police has released details about an incident in Boyds that was captured on video and shared on social media, showing officers attempting to take an adult male into custody.

According to police, officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded at approximately 10:31 am on Monday, June 1, to the 21900 block of Frederick Road for reports of an adult male experiencing a mental health crisis. A crisis response officer determined the individual needed to be transported to a hospital for evaluation. Police said officers informed the man that he was not in trouble, but he actively resisted when they attempted to take him into protective custody.

Authorities said the individual broke free while being escorted to an ambulance and moved toward the roadway. Officers intervened to prevent him from entering traffic and continued giving verbal commands. During the struggle, police said an officer deployed a Taser after the man continued resisting. Officers were eventually able to handcuff the individual, secure him on a stretcher, and transport him to a local hospital for evaluation.
