Twenty-Seven Maryland Officers Graduate From DUI Institute

Twenty-seven officers from 17 law enforcement agencies across Maryland, including the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack and the Rockville City Police Department, graduated Friday from the University of Maryland’s DUI Institute.

The intensive 40-hour program provides advanced training to help officers identify, investigate and deter impaired driving, one of the leading causes of serious and fatal crashes in Maryland.

Participants received instruction on impaired driving enforcement strategies, sobriety checkpoints, DUI courts, ignition interlock programs, and the effects of alcohol and cannabis impairment, along with advanced Standardized Field Sobriety Testing training. Established in 2003, the DUI Institute has graduated 529 officers and is a partnership between the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office, the University of Maryland, law enforcement agencies, and national impaired-driving experts.
