In recent interview with the Financial Times’ fDi Intelligence for Montgomery County’s Special U.S Report, Travis Hartman, General Manager, Weather at Finnish climate intelligence leader Vaisala Xweather, stated that the company’s decision to recently open an office in Gaithersburg—their first in the mid-Atlantic region—“puts us around people of common aspirations [and] growth mindsets.”

X-energy—which was founded in Maryland, is now based in Montgomery County, and recently underwent a historic IPO (and is now valued at $12 billion)—was founded merely 7 years ago with a vision to transform the clean nuclear and sustainable energy fields. In July 2025, the advanced nuclear energy company announced plans to open its new headquarters in Gaithersburg and has gone from 10 employees to over 1,000 since it was founded.
