Maryland has received the final $87 million in federal COVID-era education relief funding that had been withheld, completing the recovery of approximately $188 million designated for schools across the state.
The funds were released after Maryland joined a coalition of states in a federal lawsuit challenging the federal government’s decision to cut off access to previously awarded Education Stabilization Fund money.
According to Attorney General Anthony G. Brown, Maryland schools received $101 million in December 2025 and the remaining $87 million on June 1, 2026. Brown said the funding will support ongoing efforts to address the impacts of the pandemic on students and schools throughout the state.
