The Montgomery County Commission for Women has announced the winners of its ninth annual Girl Power Contest, which encourages residents to celebrate women’s achievements and impact in honor of Women’s History Month.
This year’s first-place winners were Ada Ahuja-VanTassel (elementary school), Kalyani Mishra (middle school), Eliana Cortez (high school), and Natalie Jean (adult), and were recognized at a June 11 ceremony attended by County leaders and officials.
Participants were asked to identify a woman who inspires them and explain how she used her “superpowers” to make a difference. Entries were accepted in a variety of creative formats, including stories, drawings, songs and poems, and were judged on creativity and content by representatives from the Commission for Women, Montgomery County Public Libraries and Montgomery County Recreation.
