Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass is calling for the creation of a Data Center Task Force following the County’s recent six-month pause on new data center permit applications.
Glass said the task force would provide a structured process for reviewing potential impacts of data center development and gathering input from a range of stakeholders, including environmental groups, civic organizations, utility companies, labor unions and industry representatives.
Glass first introduced legislation in January to establish a 15-member task force, but the proposal did not advance after receiving no co-sponsors and being voted down in committee. He is now urging the County to reconsider the proposal during the moratorium period, saying the group could study data center development and provide recommendations before new projects move forward.
