On Thursday, Montgomery County Councilmembers Kristin Mink and Will Jawando introduced the Community Trust in County Employees Act (Expedited Bill 29-26), which would prohibit the County from hiring former employees of ICE or CBP into public-facing or resource-allocation positions if they were employed by those agencies after October 2025.
The restriction would also apply to employees of other federal agencies who spent more than six months enforcing federal immigration laws.
Supporters say the measure is intended to strengthen trust between immigrant communities and County government services. The bill is backed by local advocacy groups We Are CASA and the Montgomery County Immigrant Rights Collective. A public hearing on the legislation is scheduled for July 14 at 1:30 p.m.
