Montgomery County residents will have several opportunities to celebrate Independence Day this weekend with fireworks displays, live entertainment, food vendors and family-friendly activities taking place in Kensington, Olney, Boyds and Poolesville.
Montgomery County 250th: Shine Together
The first celebration, Montgomery County 250th: Shine Together, will take place on Friday, July 3, at Albert Einstein High School, located at 11135 Newport Mill Road in Kensington. The event, which marks the kickoff of Montgomery County’s 250th anniversary summer celebrations, begins at 7 p.m. and will feature live music by The Nighthawks. Fireworks are scheduled to begin at approximately 9:15 p.m., weather permitting.
Parking at Albert Einstein High School will be limited to individuals with disabilities. Free parking and shuttle service for all other attendees will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Westfield Wheaton, located at 11160 Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton.
OBGC Cropdusters Fastballs & Fireworks
Also on Friday, July 3, the Olney Boys and Girls Community Sports Association (OBGC) and the Cropdusters will host their third annual Fastballs & Fireworks celebration in Olney. While tickets to the Cropdusters baseball game have sold out, fireworks viewing passes remain available. Guests with viewing passes can enter the OBGC complex beginning at 7:30 p.m. to enjoy the fireworks display, along with a variety of food and beverage vendors located in the parking lot. Organizers encourage attendees to purchase passes in advance, as the event is expected to sell out.
Germantown Glory
On Saturday, July 4, Germantown Glory will return to South Germantown Recreational Park, located at 18041 Central Park Circle in Boyds. The celebration begins at 7 p.m., with live entertainment provided by TFC Band. On-site parking will be available, and fireworks are scheduled to begin at approximately 9:15 p.m., subject to weather conditions.
Poolesville Fireworks Celebration
Also on Saturday, July 4, the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department, in partnership with the Town of Poolesville, will host its annual Poolesville Fireworks Celebration at the polo fields near the intersection of Hughes Road and Sugarland Road. Parking gates open at 4 p.m., and a $10 cash parking fee will be charged per vehicle. Live entertainment will be provided by Special Delivery, and food trucks will be available throughout the evening. Attendees unfamiliar with the area are encouraged to use 15598 Hughes Road, Poolesville, MD 20837, as their GPS destination and follow directions from police officers and parking staff.
Organizers note that the event is not taxpayer funded and is supported by the Town of Poolesville, the Poolesville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department. Parking revenue helps fund the annual fireworks display.
Food vendors will be available at all four events. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. However, alcoholic beverages and pets are prohibited at the county-sponsored events in Kensington and Boyds, and the Poolesville celebration also prohibits alcohol, pets and open flames such as grills and candles. Organizers note that coolers at the Poolesville event may be inspected by Montgomery County police.
Fireworks at the Kensington and Germantown events are scheduled to begin at approximately 9:15 p.m., while the Olney and Poolesville displays will follow the evening’s entertainment schedules. All fireworks times are subject to change due to weather conditions.
Montgomery County officials encourage residents to plan ahead, follow traffic and parking instructions, and arrive early to enjoy one of the county’s largest holiday weekends of community celebrations.
