Following a deadly Fourth of July holiday travel period, the Maryland Department of Transportation and Maryland State Police are urging motorists to drive safely for the remainder of the busy summer season.
Between June 29 and July 5, 14 people were killed in crashes across Maryland. As of July 6, a preliminary total of 195 people have died on Maryland roadways this year, compared with 235 at the same time in 2025.
Officials are reminding drivers to obey speed limits, avoid distractions, never drive impaired, wear seat belts, move over for emergency vehicles, and share the road with pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists. They also encourage motorists to allow extra travel time and avoid aggressive driving to help prevent additional tragedies this summer.
