LOCAL, FREE COMMUNITY EVENT RETURNS TO CELEBRATE BLACK JOY
Hey Cousin Culture Fest to Feature Entertainment, Food, Crafts, Activities and More for all ages
(Silver Spring, Md)–The fourth annual The Hey Cousin Culture Fest returns to Veteran’s Plaza in Silver Spring for a full day of music, food, celebration, and joy. Taking place on Sunday, August 16 from 1-8 pm, this free event welcomes families and individuals of all ages. Hey Cousin Culture Fest is centered around celebrating Black Joy.
Hey Cousin has become a local tradition where community, arts, food, education, and culture come together for an unforgettable day. The event features a variety of activities, information from local nonprofits, entertainment by local performers, and products from local small businesses.
This event was born from the idea that bringing community together is everything. We must celebrate joy, culture, and unity. We’re thrilled to once again create a space where we highlight and showcase the beauty of Black culture,” said Hey Cousin Co-Founder Janae Johnson. “At the festival, in partnership with our vendors and performers, we’ll showcase, educate, and raise awareness of the great work happening in our communities and families every day.”
Vendors will be offering a large gamut of products anywhere from attire to food, beverage, and crafts. “Supporting local talent and businesses is so important and contributes towards fulfilling our mission as an event and organization,” said Johnson.

About The Hey Cousin Culture Fest
Curated and launched by two impactful women in 2022, The Hey Cousin Culture Fest was developed to celebrate the Black diaspora through music, food, live performances, community participation and a variety of local businesses. This is a family-friendly event for all our “cousins!” At the festival, all will be entertained by performances from local and international artists and dance teams, as well as other acclaimed artists.
