PRJC Jazz Zoom: Beyond Storyville: Hidden Block That Birth Jazz

Online event (see link)

Storyville is legendary as New Orleans’ red-light district, but it was also the undeniable launchpad for early jazz.

On Tuesday Sep 14th 7:00, we’re diving deep into a single, explosive block of Franklin Street that served as the hotbed of music before, during, and after the Storyville Era (1898–1917).

Our guest speaker, Jordan Hirsh—a native New Orleans music historian and former staff writer for the acclaimed HBO series Treme—will share the stories of the European venue builders and the pioneering African American musicians like Buddy Bolden and Tony Jackson who changed music forever.

As with all our jazz talks, you have to pre-register before 5:00 pm Eastern, the night of the program to receive the link. Our jazz talk series are always offered for free, but we appreciate any donation made at the time of registration to offset the cost of producing the program. Zoom link is emailed to you shortly before it begins.
