Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) has released additional details about Tuesday evening’s house fire in the 18700 block of Calypso Place in Gaithersburg, which caused an estimated $800,000 in damage and left one firefighter and one civilian injured.
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 5:30 p.m. and arrived to find the single-family home fully engulfed in flames. Due to the heavy fire conditions, incident commanders requested a second alarm, bringing more than 55 firefighters to the scene. All occupants were safely accounted for, and the fire was eventually brought under control.
According to MCFRS, the resident reported first noticing a fire outside the home near a recycling bin or trash container. However, investigators were unable to determine the exact cause because the fire caused extensive damage, leaving little of the rear of the house available for examination. The cause remains undetermined. One firefighter and one civilian sustained injuries during the incident.
