Montgomery Blair High School student Kian Dhawan has earned a gold medal at the 37th International Biology Olympiad, representing the United States in the prestigious global competition held July 12 through July 19 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Dhawan was one of four U.S. students to receive a gold medal as teams from 78 countries competed.
Dhawan qualified for Team USA after advancing through the USA Biolympiad National Finals, which brought together top high school biology students from across the country at Harvard University. More than 12,800 students registered for the nationwide competition before finalists participated in 10 days of advanced biology training and laboratory instruction led by leading scientists and educators.
