Workers at Verbal Beginnings in Rockville represented by Teamsters Local 639 have gone on strike, saying the company has refused to negotiate a fair first union contract.
The 33 registered behavioral technicians provide early intervention and other services for children on the autism spectrum and say they are seeking better wages, fair treatment, and protections for their 40-hour work week.
According to Teamsters Local 639, the workers voted to unionize last year and have been negotiating their first contract since then. The union says key issues include pay and the company’s proposal to eliminate the standard 40-hour work week. Verbal Beginnings had not publicly responded to the union’s claims at the time of publication.
