Montgomery County Fair Creating More Inclusive Experience with Sensory-Friendly Morning

The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair will host a Sensory-Friendly Midway Morning on Monday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering a quieter and more inclusive fair experience for individuals with sensory sensitivities, autism and anyone who benefits from a lower-stimulation environment.

During the event, carnival rides and games will operate without lights or music, while vendors throughout the fairgrounds will also keep lights and music off whenever possible. The Pepco Community Stage will continue scheduled performances in modified, lower-volume formats, and the fair’s public address system will only be used for emergencies and lost visitor announcements. Families are encouraged to bring noise-canceling headphones and other comfort items.

The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair will take place Aug. 14 through Aug. 22 at the Montgomery County Agricultural Center in Gaithersburg. Visitors can enjoy carnival rides, fair food, livestock exhibits, youth competitions, live entertainment, Monster Truck Madness, the Red Eye Rodeo, the Demolition Derby and hundreds of vendors. Organizers say everyone is welcome to attend the Sensory-Friendly Midway Morning, which is being offered in partnership with Powers Great American Midways.
