The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Montgomery County and much of the Washington, D.C. region until midnight Sunday as multiple rounds of heavy rain could lead to flash flooding.
The watch includes central and southeastern Montgomery County, along with the District of Columbia, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, Howard and Baltimore counties, as well as portions of Northern Virginia.
Forecasters said parts of the region have already received 1 to 2 inches of rain Sunday, with at least two additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms expected through the evening. Another 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, with locally higher amounts possible, could cause flash flooding in urban areas, along small streams, and in low-lying or poor drainage locations.
Residents are urged to monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to take action if Flash Flood Warnings are issued. Drivers should never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
