The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold a virtual public hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. to discuss proposed traffic calming improvements along Pooks Hill Road in Bethesda.
The proposed changes affect the 0.4-mile stretch between Linden Avenue and MD 355 (Rockville Pike). Following a review of crash history, vehicle speeds, and pedestrian and traffic volumes, MCDOT developed a series of safety improvements aimed at reducing speeding and improving conditions for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
The proposal includes installing high-visibility longitudinal bar crosswalks, narrowing travel lanes with new pavement markings, adding bicycle lanes, installing concrete islands in parking-restricted areas, and adding a double-yellow centerline along a portion of the roadway. Some on-street parking areas would be repurposed to accommodate the bicycle lanes. Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback during the online hearing.

During the meeting, MCDOT’s Traffic Engineering representatives will share the proposed traffic safety improvements along Pooks Hill Road and provide opportunities for questions and feedback. Invitations will be sent to affected communities, civic groups, and homeowner associations along Pooks Hill Road.
