More Than $53.5 Million Recovered for Maryland Insurance Consumers

The Maryland Insurance Administration recovered more than $53.5 million for Maryland consumers and businesses during the first six months of 2026, Governor Wes Moore announced Friday.

The money was recovered through several programs and divisions that handle insurance complaints, claims disputes, rate reviews, fraud investigations and other consumer issues.

The largest recoveries included nearly $23.2 million through the Life and Health Complaints Unit, more than $18 million in savings resulting from property and casualty insurance rate filing changes, nearly $4.9 million through market conduct investigations and nearly $4.7 million through property and casualty complaints.

The agency’s Rapid Response Program also recovered more than $2.1 million while closing 1,283 complaints involving issues such as auto and homeowners insurance claims.

The Maryland Insurance Administration also reported that its Health Coverage Assistance Team assisted 1,055 Marylanders during the first half of the year. The team helps residents with health insurance questions, complaints and access to coverage resources.

The agency regulates insurers, insurance agents and brokers operating in Maryland and investigates consumer complaints, coverage disputes and insurance fraud.
