Sushi Masato, a new family-owned Japanese restaurant from husband-and-wife team Raymond and Amy Yu, will begin its soft opening Wednesday, August 12, at 4914 Hampden Lane in downtown Bethesda. An official grand opening is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19. The restaurant is located in the space previously occupied by Tako Grill.
The restaurant will feature traditional nigiri and sashimi, chef-selected sushi combinations, specialty rolls and three omakase-inspired tasting menus priced at $58, $78 and $98 per person. Seafood offerings will include toro, salmon belly, amaebi, uni and ikura.
Other menu items include Miso Black Cod, Chawanmushi, Unagi Don, Chicken and Salmon Teriyaki and specialty rolls such as Osaka-Style Pressed Sushi, Coconut Shrimp Roll, Great Wall Roll and Rainbow Roll. Japanese sake, beer and wine will also be available.
The Yus plan to eventually open a separate Japanese-inspired dessert concept called The One Cake alongside the restaurant. The concept will offer handcrafted Japanese-style cakes, mille crepe cakes and soft serve featuring flavors such as Matcha and Oolong. An opening date for The One Cake has not yet been announced.
During Sushi Masato’s opening period, dine-in customers will receive Hokkaido Fresh Milk Soft Serve through August 31. The restaurant will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
