A Gaithersburg man won $50,000 playing the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game using a set of numbers that are special to him.
According to MD Lottery, the winner, an auto mechanic, stopped at Goshen Beer & Wine in Montgomery Village on Aug. 3 to buy a soda and decided to spend his last $5 on Pick 3 and Pick 5 tickets. His Pick 5 numbers, 8-4-8-9-6, matched the evening drawing straight, earning him the $50,000 top prize.
“It was the first time ever seeing my numbers come out,” he told Lottery officials. “I was shocked.”
The winner said he plans to use the money to pay property taxes and complete some home remodeling. Goshen Beer & Wine, located at 9150 Rothbury Drive, will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
