The City of Rockville will celebrate renovations at the Lincoln Park Community Center with a rededication ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday, September 25
The center reopened July 1 following improvements that included expanded fitness and gathering spaces, a new STEM and STEAM lab, accessibility upgrades and Rockville’s first municipal solar energy system.
The rooftop system features 80 solar panels expected to generate more than 43,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, offset about 40% of the center’s electricity use and save approximately $8,400 per year.
The project also included the restoration of a 1993 mural created by Lincoln Park neighborhood youth and the addition of “Color Full Community,” a new mural by D.C.-based artist Rose Jaffe created in collaboration with residents. Guided tours and demonstrations will follow the September 25 ceremony.
