Z&Z Manoushe Bakery in Rockville has been named one of “The Best Cheap Eats Around the DC Area” by Washingtonian.
Located at 1111 Nelson Street, Z&Z specializes in manoushe, thin flatbreads that Washingtonian describes as the Levantine version of pizza. The publication highlighted the bakery’s “Lebanese bride,” topped with labneh, tomatoes, cucumbers and fresh herbs, as well as the “cocktail,” which combines melted cheese on one half with za’atar on the other.
Z&Z Manoushe Bakery, owned and operated by the Dubbaneh family, opened in September 2021 in a location with deep ties to the family. Their grandfather, Fuzzy Dubbaneh, purchased the property in 1982 after immigrating to the United States in 1979. He operated several businesses there over the years, including a deli, Chicken Delight and Chicken Tonight. The space was later home to Slice of Rockville for 11 years before Z&Z brought the location back into the family.
The restaurant grew out of the Dubbaneh family’s farmers market business and focuses on foods their grandparents ate and grew up with. The family has said its goal is to “share the extreme generosity and hospitality that exists in Arab food culture with the local community.”
The Washingtonian recognition adds to a growing list of accolades for Z&Z. Bon Appétit previously included the Rockville bakery on its list of the 50 Best New Restaurants of 2022.
