Montgomery County Councilmember and Democratic nominee for County Executive Will Jawando was discharged from The George Washington University Hospital on Wednesday, September 9, after suffering a heart attack four days earlier.
Jawando shared a video message from his home Thursday, thanking residents, colleagues and friends for their support and providing an update on his recovery. Jawando remains a Montgomery County Councilmember.
“Now that I’m home, I wanted to check in and say thank you,” Jawando said. “The texts, calls, and prayers over the past few days have meant everything to our family.”
Jawando suffered the heart attack on the morning of Saturday, September 5, while playing in his regular weekend pickup basketball game. He was taken to The George Washington University Hospital, where doctors placed a stent.
Jawando said he will spend additional time recovering at home with his wife, Michele, and their children before returning to his full schedule. His Council office remains open and available to constituents during his recovery.
In his video message, Jawando also encouraged residents to pay attention to their cardiovascular health.
“I have a message for everyone out there: take care of yourself,” Jawando said. “Don’t ignore the warning signs, especially us guys, but ladies too.”
