Sabor Mixteco Taqueria, located in Wheaton in Montgomery County, has been named one of “The Best Cheap Eats Around the DC Area” by Washingtonian.
The recently published list highlights 60 restaurants where diners can get a satisfying meal for less than $25 per person, excluding drinks, tax and tip. More than 200 restaurants across the region were considered.
Washingtonian highlighted Sabor Mixteco’s tlayuda, a large Oaxacan tortilla topped with beans, cheese and other ingredients, as well as the chileajo and alambre. The restaurant’s menu also includes carne asada, enchiladas, chilaquiles, tortas, burritos and other Oaxacan specialties.
Sabor Mixteco opened in 2023 at 2462 Ennalls Avenue in Wheaton. The restaurant is operated by Juan Solano, a veteran of the longtime Adams Morgan restaurant Mixtec, along with Apolinar Cervantes and Marisol Gonzales. Mixtec operated in DC for approximately 40 years before closing in 2014.
Sabor Mixteco occupies the former Kantutas space.
