A Rockville man won a $50,000 top prize playing the Maryland Lottery’s $5 scratch-off.
According to MD Lottery, the winner said he was home alone when he discovered he had matched eight words across the ticket’s two crossword puzzles. “After I saw it, I was screaming,” he said after claiming the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on September 18.
He immediately texted his wife with the news, but she initially thought he was joking. The couple said they plan to put the $50,000 winnings into savings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Wheaton Winery, located at 2211-B University Boulevard. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.
