The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) announced the arrest of a 46-year-old Frederick man in connection with the 2003 murder of Joshua Wayne Crawford, a case that remained under investigation for more than two decades.
Tavon Jamar Willis was taken into custody after a Frederick County grand jury returned an indictment in connection with Crawford’s death. Crawford was found murdered inside his Exeter Court apartment on July 2, 2003, the day he would have turned 21. According to FCSO, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined he died from asphyxia and sharp and blunt force injuries.
Investigators continued pursuing leads and tips over the past 23 years. FCSO said significant new evidence uncovered during the ongoing investigation ultimately led to Willis’ arrest.
Willis was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center and faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, armed robbery, robbery, burglary and false imprisonment, along with related conspiracy charges.
