Turmerica, a vegetarian Indian restaurant opened by chef Tanvi Modi, will open its new Montgomery County location on Wednesday, September 23, at Montgomery Village Plaza in Gaithersburg.
The restaurant is located at 18280 Contour Road, taking over the space most recently occupied by Mirchi Dhaba. Turmerica, whose name combines “turmeric” and “America,” currently operates a location at 22034 Shaw Road in Sterling, Virginia, and describes its concept as a blend of Indian culinary traditions and American hospitality.
Modi opened Turmerica with a focus on vegetarian Indian cuisine, offering traditional dishes alongside Indian street food and Indo-Chinese selections. The menu at its Sterling location includes Punjabi samosas, pani puri, aloo tikki chole chaat, chilli paneer, vegetable Manchurian and Hakka noodles. Signature offerings include Aam Palak Chaat, Dhokla Duets, Patra Pleasure and Brussels Sprouts Bhel.
Entrées include paneer butter masala, aloo gobi, smoky baingan, Mughlai paneer korma, vegetable hariyali korma and Indian okra masala. The menu also features street-food dishes such as chole puri, dabeli and vada pav.
Mirchi Dhaba opened in the Montgomery Village Plaza space earlier this year after replacing Chopathi Indian Kitchen next to Patel Brothers Farmers Market. Mirchi Dhaba offered North and South Indian cuisine, Indian street food, a lunch buffet and a full bar.
