The City of Rockville’s annual Rocktobierfest returns this Saturday, September 27, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Rockville Town Center.
The free Oktoberfest celebration features two stages of live music, food, beer from local breweries, an artisan shopping area and activities for children. The annual event typically attracts nearly 8,000 people. Rocktobierfest began in 2017 as part of the 60th anniversary celebration of Rockville’s sister city relationship with Pinneberg, Germany, and has continued as an annual event.
This year’s entertainment includes Moe Stringz Band, Cover Story and Glamour Kitty on the Maryland Avenue Stage. D’ Potomactaler Stamm, Rockville German Band and Alt Washingtonia will perform Bavarian, polka and traditional German music on the East Montgomery Avenue Stage.
Participating breweries include 7 Locks Brewing, BabyCat Brewery, Clear Skies Meadery, Crooked Crab Brewing Co., Denizens Brewing Co., Lone Oak Farm Brewing Co., Silver Branch Brewing Company, Third Hill Brewing Co. and Waredaca Brewing Company. World of Beer will also participate.
Food vendors scheduled to participate include Ben & Jerry’s, Festival Concessions, Jamison & Co Cake Pops, Little Austria, Maryland Brat & Butcher Co., Philly Pretzel Factory, Pho Frederick, Pop-up Poutine, Rice Around the World, Silver & Sons BBQ, Sweet & Smile and Trippy Tacos. Offerings will range from traditional German bratwursts, sausages and pretzels to barbecue, tacos, Vietnamese street food, poutine, desserts and other festival food.
This year’s event will also include a special America 250 time capsule ceremony. The city will bury a time capsule containing memories, Rockville history and messages for future generations at 1 p.m. at Courthouse Square Park during Rocktobierfest.
The capsule is scheduled to remain sealed for 50 years before being opened in 2076 as part of the nation’s 300th anniversary celebration.
