The owner of an Easton, MD motorsports business has pleaded guilty in a years-long scheme involving falsified sales paperwork for jet skis, dirt bikes and trailers.
Robert David Michael, 56, owner of B&E Motorsports, pleaded guilty September 22 to a felony theft scheme over $100,000, felony identity fraud scheme over $25,000, perjury and willfully filing a false income tax return.
According to the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, Michael collected the correct taxes from customers but submitted paperwork to the state showing lower sales prices, allowing him to keep the difference.
Michael is scheduled to be sentenced October 27. Under a binding agreement, he will serve 18 months in jail followed by five years of supervised probation. He has also agreed to pay more than $171,000 in restitution and a $25,000 fine.
