The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) began the first phase of bus shelter replacement work at Takoma Metro Station on Monday, September 21, resulting in temporary changes for several bus routes.
During Phase 1, bus bays A and B are temporarily closed. Ride On Routes 18 and 25, which normally use Bay A, have been moved to temporary Bay T1. Metrobus Route D5X, which normally uses Bay B, is operating from Bay C.
The work is part of WMATA’s Bus Shelter Replacement Program. Additional bus bays will temporarily close in phases as construction continues, with Ride On, Metrobus and other transit services using temporary or alternate boarding locations.
Temporary bus stops will be ADA-compliant, although some may not have shelters or benches. WMATA plans to make bus bay changes early Monday mornings, around 3 a.m., to reduce impacts on the morning commute.
Signs will be posted throughout Takoma Station directing riders to the appropriate boarding locations, and all routes will continue to operate during the work.
