The City of Rockville has launched its “It’s Up to Us…” campaign, encouraging drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and others to play a role in improving safety on city streets.
The campaign is part of Rockville’s Vision Zero initiative, which calls for eliminating traffic-related deaths and serious injuries by 2030. The Mayor and Council adopted the goal in 2020.
Recent safety efforts have included audits of 30 intersections, studies of potential improvements along five roadways and new sidewalks along West Gude Drive, Potomac Valley Road, Welsh Park Drive and Crawford Drive.
The Rockville City Police Department has also increased traffic enforcement. By mid-September, police had taken 6,188 enforcement actions in 2026, an increase of 1,246 compared with the same period last year.
The city said the new campaign emphasizes that infrastructure and enforcement alone will not achieve its Vision Zero goal. The campaign asks people driving, walking, rolling, biking or using transit to pay attention, follow traffic laws and look out for others.
“It’s Up to Us…” messages will appear throughout Rockville in the coming months, including on social media, Rockville 11 and in Rockville Reports.
