Several railroad crossings in Montgomery County will temporarily close in October as CSX completes rail replacement and resurfacing work on its northbound tracks, according to the County.
The closures will prevent vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians from crossing the railroad tracks. Detours will be posted, and travelers should expect heavy traffic and allow additional travel time. Similar work was completed last year on the southbound tracks.
Scheduled closures, weather permitting, include Railroad Street in Washington Grove from Monday, October 5 through Thursday, October 8; Chestnut Street in Gaithersburg from Tuesday, October 6 through Friday, October 9; Metropolitan Grove Road in Gaithersburg from Saturday, October 10 through Sunday, October 11; and South Summit Avenue in Gaithersburg from Monday, October 12 through Thursday, October 15.
Montgomery County is advising travelers to follow posted detours and seek alternate routes when possible while the work is underway.
