Six Montgomery County schools have been named 2026-2027 Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools, Governor Wes Moore announced Tuesday, October 20. The schools are among 23 institutions recognized statewide for academic achievement (full list below).
Three Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) received the designation: Beverly Farms Elementary School, Somerset Elementary School and Travilah Elementary School.
Three additional Montgomery County schools within the Archdiocese of Washington were also recognized: St. Andrew Apostle School, St. Bartholomew School and St. John the Baptist School.
Schools are selected based on factors including performance on state and national assessments and success in closing achievement gaps among student groups.
Statewide, this year’s honorees include 12 public schools, six schools from the Archdiocese of Baltimore and five from the Archdiocese of Washington. The total represents an increase from seven schools recognized last year.
Governor Moore reinstated the Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools program in 2025 following the discontinuation of the federal National Blue Ribbon Schools Program.
The 23 schools will be formally recognized at the Maryland State Board of Education meeting on December 8 and during the Maryland General Assembly’s legislative session next spring. Each school will receive a Maryland Blue Ribbon School banner, flag and award citations.
