Man Wanted for Allegedly Stealing Luxury Vehicles From Bethesda and Virginia Dealerships

The U.S. Marshals Service has joined the search for 38-year-old Joe Cofer of Washington, D.C., who is wanted in connection with armed carjackings at luxury car dealerships in Maryland and Virginia, according to FOX 45.

Cofer allegedly stole an Audi S5 from Audi Bethesda on June 29 after threatening an employee with what appeared to be a handgun during a test drive. Investigators say Cofer arrived at the Bethesda dealership in another Audi that had been stolen the previous day from Audi of Tysons Corner in Vienna, Virginia, under similar circumstances.

FOX 45 reports that authorities later tracked the Audi stolen from Bethesda to Washington, D.C., using the vehicle’s tracking technology. The vehicle was recovered, but Cofer was not located. Investigators also connected Cofer to a June 26 vandalism incident in Silver Spring, during which he allegedly broke a window and suffered injuries that required hospital treatment. According to court documents, those injuries were consistent with cuts and bruises noticed by employees at the Bethesda dealership.
