Montgomery County officials are encouraging residents enrolled in Medicare to review their health and prescription drug coverage before open enrollment ends on Monday, December 7. Changes made during this period will take effect January 1, 2027.
Medicare plans can change their premiums, deductibles, prescription drug coverage, provider networks, and other benefits each year. Residents are encouraged to compare costs, confirm that their medications and preferred doctors are covered, and review any changes to their current plans.
During open enrollment, beneficiaries can switch Medicare Advantage plans, move between Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare, or make changes to their Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage, subject to enrollment rules.
Free, unbiased Medicare counseling is available through Montgomery County’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). Counselors can help residents compare plans and determine whether they qualify for financial assistance with premiums, prescription drugs, and other health care expenses.
Residents can contact SHIP at 301-255-4250, email [email protected], or visit medicareabcd.org for assistance. Medicare plans can also be compared at Medicare.gov.
