$900 Million Resort Featuring 175,000-Square-Foot Indoor Water Park Opens This Month

Kalahari Resorts is scheduled to open its new $900 million Virginia resort on Thursday, November 12, bringing one of the country’s largest indoor water park destinations within driving distance of Montgomery County.

Located in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, just off Interstate 95 and approximately 80 miles from central Montgomery County, the resort will be Kalahari’s fifth U.S. location and its first in the Washington, D.C. region.

The resort will feature more than 175,000 square feet of indoor water park attractions, approximately 900 guest suites, a full-service convention center, restaurants, shopping, arcades and additional family entertainment options.

The African-inspired property is expected to attract visitors from across the Washington metropolitan area and the East Coast.

Kalahari currently operates resorts in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; Sandusky, Ohio; Pocono Manor, Pennsylvania; and Round Rock, Texas. The Virginia resort will be the company’s first new location since opening its Texas property in 2020.

The family-owned company, founded by Todd and Shari Nelson more than 25 years ago, was also recently named to TIME’s inaugural list of America’s Best Private Companies for 2026.
