37 People Killed in Maryland Traffic Crashes During October

A total of 37 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes across Maryland in October 2026, including eight pedestrians and 11 motorcyclists, according to preliminary data released Monday by the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT).

The October total represents four fewer fatalities than the same month in 2025, when 41 people were killed. Through the first 10 months of 2026, Maryland has recorded 371 traffic fatalities, compared to 409 during the same period last year, a decrease of 38 deaths.

Among those killed in October were Maryland Port Administration Deputy Executive Director Brian Miller and his wife, according to MDOT.

Statewide fatalities this year include 164 drivers, 47 passengers, 73 pedestrians, 14 bicyclists and 73 motorcyclists.

The Maryland Highway Safety Office will hold its 23rd Annual Maryland Remembers ceremony on Thursday, November 12, at 11 am at the Sheraton Baltimore North in Towson. The event honors people killed in roadway crashes, and families are invited to attend and bring framed photographs of their loved ones. Registration is available at ZeroDeathsMD.gov/MDRemembers.

With daylight saving time ending and sunset occurring earlier, state officials are reminding motorists to watch for pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, obey speed limits, avoid distractions and never drive impaired.

All fatality figures are preliminary and subject to change.
