Shelly Skolnick Announces Run For County Executive

Republican Shelly Skolnick, 78, of Friendship Heights, has announced he will be running for Montgomery County Executive.

Skolnick previously ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Maryland’s 8th Congressional District in 2012, 2016, and 2020, and for an at-large seat on the Montgomery County Council in 2006, 2014, and 2018.

According to an article by Steve Bohnel of Bethesda Magazine, Skolnick’s priorities include offering free tuition or loan assistance to college students who volunteer for the county government, as well as transportation, where he suggests building up areas around Metro stations.

The other Republican running for County Executive is Reardon Sullivan, the current chairman of Montgomery County’s Republican Central Committee (MCRCC), which is official organization of the Republican Party in Montgomery County.

The winning GOP candidate will go up against the winner of the Democratic primary between incumbent Marc Elrich, David Blair, Peter James, and Hans Riemer. The primary election is on July, 19.
