Fourth of July Festivities in Montgomery Village

Are you ready for the first great event of the summer? Montgomery Village Foundation is hosting our annual July 4th Celebration, and you’re invited! Join the Montgomery Village community in celebration of America’s birthday! Activities are scheduled on Saturday, July 2 and Monday, July 4 for all to enjoy.

Start the holiday weekend with the 5K Race/Fun Run at Lake Marion Community Center, 8821 East Village Avenue. This fun 5K through East Village and around Lake Marion is the perfect way to get your heart rate up for the festivities to come! Register by Wednesday, June 29 to secure your spot and get your race t-shirt!

Participation is only $25/Resident and $30/Non-resident for the 5K or $15/Resident and $20/Non-resident for the Fun Run. Sign up now at https://runsignup.com/Race/MD/MontgomeryVillage/MVF5K.

After you recover from running and weekend picnics, head over to the Apple Ridge Recreation Area, 10101 Apple Ridge Road, on Monday, July 4 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for a few hours of free family fun! Join the community parade down Apple Ridge Road—bring a chair or sit on the curb and watch the parade, or consider marching or building a float. The parade will feature fire engines, classic cars, community groups, eyecatching floats, music and more!

Participants drop-off, register and line up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints parking lot, 20020 Montgomery Village Avenue beginning at 9:30 a.m. Enter the parade and strut your stuff down Apple Ridge Road. It’s a free and fun way to show your creativity and community spirit. Parade entries that best reflect the theme “May The Fourth Be With You” will be judged and one award will be given in each of the following categories:

  • Best Decorated Bicycle, Scooter, Wheelchair, Stroller or Motorized Toy Vehicle
  • Best Costume
  • Best Motorized Float
  • Best Hand-pulled Float
  • Best Marching or Performing Group
  • New this year – the best overall entry – judged on the parade route – will receive a trophy

After the parade, walk over to the Apple Ridge Recreation Area for a celebration with music, food, games and rides! Highlights include pony rides, a petting zoo, BMX Slide, Ballistic Swing, 26’ Rock Wall, Sand Storm ride, field games and more. Food for sale will include Kona Ice, Bruster’s Ice Cream D’s Smokehouse, DMV Empanadas and Pop-Up Poutine. 45 RPM will provide live music as you enjoy the festivities.
