Per the Takoma Park Police Department: Chief Antonio DeVaul from the Takoma Park Police Department announces the arrests of Luis Samuel Rios Rodriguez, 35, of no fixed address and Abed Jonathan Midence-Lopez, 39, of Greenbelt, Maryland, for multiple offenses. Rodriguez was charged with attempted first degree murder, first degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and second degree assault. Midence-Lopez was charged with conspiracy to all of the listed charges.
On December 18, 2022, at approximately 2:47 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7600 block of New Hampshire Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland. (Barriles Restaurant & Sports Bar) for shots fired with injuries. Upon officers arrival, both suspects were exiting the establishment to leave but were detained.
Midence-Lopez was suffering non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Rodriguez was transported to the police station. When officers entered the establishment, they located the victim who was suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officers provided life saving measures until rescue units arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Upon a search of the establishment, a firearm was located along with shell casings.
Officers learned that Rodriguez, Midence-Lopez and the victim were involved in a verbal argument, and at some point, a security guard separated them. Rodriguez and Midence-Lopez were escorted out of the establishment. Rodriguez returned to the restaurant with a firearm to confront the victim. A physical altercation started that ended with Rodriguez shooting the victim. Both Rodriguez and Midence-Lopez were charged accordingly and transported to the Montgomery County
