Approximately 60 Firefighters Respond to Fire Caused by Hybrid Vehicle Monday Night

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 13100blk of Bellevue St, off Greenmont Ave in Calverton on Monday, December 11, for the report of a garage fire.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, approximately 60 firefighters responded to the scene around 8pm. Occupants of the home heard a noise and discovered their hybrid car on fire in the garage. The occupants then attempted to fight the fire with a garden hose which delayed emergency response.

There were no injuries reported and damage is estimated to be approximately $50,000, which includes the vehicle. Four adults and two kids have been displaced. We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.
